ND: Hurt"Frank?" Callie blinked, holding her front door open. Frank was standing on the porch, a big, bright, heart-melting smile on his face. Before she could say anything else, he had grabbed her hand and pulled her half off the porch.

"Come on," he said, his voice bubbling with enthusiasm. Almost as an afterthought, he tugged her closer and planted a kiss on the top of her head. Callie took a shaky breath and pressed her fist tight against her ribs, a habit that always helped her calm down when she started to feel lightheaded. She stayed like that for a few seconds before finally looking up at him.

"Where are we going?" she asked. Frank grinned

ND: DoubtShe had thought things were better between them. Frank had taken her on six cases in the past month, even if he was always careful to "forget" her when he thought it would be too dangerous. She didn't mind that too much because his kisses—she was sure—were growing more and more insistent. The night before he had nearly left her breathless on the porch, his lips trailing down her neck, and for a moment—well, longer than a moment, if she was being honest—she had wanted him to keep kissing her all the way down—

But Frank wasn't like that. He'd suddenly let her go with a chaste peck on the lips and walked back to his car

Callie nodded and whipped out a notebook. She'd always wanted to whip something out. That phrase popped up all the time in books and things, and for some reason, she'd always imagined characters fashioning everyday objects into literal whips to punish their victims. The sassy reporter whipped out her camera and beaned someone in the head. The sassy teacher whipped out her gradebook and branded Fs on the faces of her students. The sassy rock star whipped out her guitar and strangled her audience with the power of music. The metaphorical idea was sound, anyway. Girls who whipped things out were sassy (which Call

Sonny dashed into the lab, feet skidding on the just-mopped floor, his arms wheeling backward in an effort to balance out his momentum. At the last moment, he bounced up on his toes and planted his butt on the edge of Henrik's desk. In the same move, he had crossed his legs, braced one arm against the desk, and leaned so far to the left that his head was upside down. "Helloooooooo, Henrik!" he beamed.

"Christ." Henrik sucked the word in through clenched teeth. He tore his mask off and leaned away, pinching the bridge of his nose. "We talked about this, Sonny."

"Did we?" Sonny said innocently. He straightened up and put on his widest smile.

ND: A Crime of PassionFrank pulled to a stop in front of a small, one-story house on Acre Street. It looked identical to every other house on the street--a red-flagged mailbox by the drive, a close-cut lawn, and flowers sprouting out of a box in the window. Callie hadn't expected a suspect's house to be so perfectly, ridiculously ordinary. An interrogation would be as easy as walking up and ringing the doorbell. From the way Frank and Joe told their stories, she half-expected to find moats and dragons to block their path.

Frank patted out a random beat on the steering wheel. "Hm. I didn't expect to see a car here." He glanced at Callie, gracing her with a sudden,

I don't even know what is happening here. I just wanted to draw something really cute between them. I love them both so much.

I wanted this to just be a cute fluffy picture, but it more closely mirrors a sad scene I've already written. Dang it, I can't make them be happy.

Huge file. You've been warned.

I'm really happy with how this is drawn. Still iffy on the coloring, so if anyone has any suggestions of what works/what doesn't, I'd love to know.

I like the composition. I like the contrast in their skins - he looks warm and alive and she dead and cold.

Full size is full! Of detail! And freckles.

The textures of both his and her hair really are well-done, and the freckles on his face are great too. Moreso than her desperate pose, and his perfectly placed left hand, is the total perfection in their facial expressions. I'll admit, I haven't gotten around to reading this story yet, but I already have a glimpse of how dramatic it has/will get. The simple lines under their eyes, the eyelid...height, all of it's just very, very telling. Great job.

I think the picture would have looked more put together and unnecesarily awkward if his hand had been on her waist instead of just lying at his side.
