Watchmen Doodlez

ACK! Okay, I had to get some Watchmen fanart out of my system because it consumed my brain this weekend. I finished the graphic novel just yesterday (which, aside from sometimes being disturbing for the sake of being disturbing, was VERY GOOD) and today I went to see the movie with Squirrel. Overall, probably the best book-to-movie adaptation I've ever seen. They went word-for-word, everything in order, and pretty much everything they changed actually improved the story. (Aside from... well... I'll get to that.) SPOILERS AHOY!

I might have another comic or two in mind for Watchmen, but I'm not obsessed with it or anything. I just think the movie was great.

1.) Hahaha. I actually sort of like Doctor Manhattan because I just feel really sorry for him. Squirrel and I were making fun of how he loves Mars so much, and we could just picture him lying down and hugging it. Mars is skeeved out, methinks.

2.) Oh God, best part of the whole movie, really. Dan Dreiberg/Nite Owl II is my favorite character, not only because he's played by Patrick Wilson (Raoul from POTO and general awesome person), but also because he has that endearing awkward quality that makes me squee. So, in the movie, he's meeting Laurie for dinner for the first time, and there's this music playing that's supposed to be sexy, and it might even be in slow-motion, I'm not sure, but Laurie comes in, and the camera zooms in on Dan's face while he's blowing on his glasses, all awkwardly, but there's sexy music playing, and it just... IT MADE MY LIFE WAS WHAT IT DID. I laughed forever. It's difficult to explain how awesome it was...

3.) This is from the book. Dan says the bit about aspirin, and then he goes back to his room and just, like, curses into the heavens. It's hilarious. Tehe... he is a very, very desperate man. And Laurie knows this. (By the way, I love them together! SO CUTE.)

4.) Oh no. Yes. We all knew there was going to be a sex scene between Dan and Laurie, but... nothing prepared me for its incredible awkwardness. So the first bit was adorable, where Dan's all like, "Give me a few minutes..." because that's just supposed to be awkward and adorkable. Yeah.

So then... what the crap, they're in Archie, and... and... "Hallelujah" starts playing, and... and... OMG HOW ARE THEY ALLOWED TO SHOW THIS??? ICTH ICTH ICTH. And the whole time that song is playing and I know I will not be able to look Patrick Wilson in the eye for the rest of the movie, and then... and then... Laurie accidentally hits the flamethrower button... the fire shoots out into the night sky... AND I DIE. Seriously, I would have laughed for ages if the movie hadn't still been going. (Squirrel informed me that this happens in the book as well, but I didn't notice. Dude, even the book didn't show all that nastiness. Oh, PATRICK...)

I can never listen to that song again. UGGGGGHHHH. But so hilarious.

(Oh no, I have to explain the "family reunion" thing. So, we both have this other friend who is, honest to goodness, closely related to Patrick Wilson. He comes to their family reunions. SERIOUSLY. So we were just thinking how hilarious it would be if she went up to him and was like, "I saw Watchmen," and he'd be like, "Uhhhhhhhhyeah." AWKWARD.

5.) Adrian said this in the book after he blew up New York with his squid thing (smart decision by the movie people not to introduce a cloned, psychic squid alien thing into the plot). He's such a toddler.
