The Book Thief: White

Yes, it was white.

It felt as though the whole globe was dressed in snow. Like it had pulled it on, the way you pull on a sweater.

Next to the train line, footprints were sunken to their shins. Trees wore blankets of ice.

As you might expect, someone had died.

They couldn't just leave him on the ground. For now, it wasn't such a problem, but very soon, the track ahead would be cleared and the train would need to move on.

There were two guards.
There was one mother and her daughter.
One corpse.

The mother, the girl, and the corpse remained stubborn and silent.

I've always wanted to do some art for this book, but I feel like I'm not even worthy to attempt it. So I worked kind of hard on this. Hopefully, trying to illustrate it will help me get better. I mean, dang, I have a background and everything. XD

But anyway. This is from the prologue of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. If you only read one other book in your life, please let it be this one. It is seriously world-changing. I can't even put into words how much I adore this book. It's a genuine masterpiece.

I'm hoping to eventually do the other two color sections, as well. I wanted to do the prologue because that's the section I always end up re-reading, whenever I happen to have my copy nearby. No matter how much I read Markus Zusak, I'm always floored by his talent. He's just... GUH. I HAVE A BIG LITERARY CRUSH ON HIM.

Basically, The Book Thief is about a girl, Liesel Meminger, who steals books during the Holocaust. The book is narrated by Death. It is gorgeous. Please read it.
